Thinq talks to AMD's Richard Huddy, senior manager of developer relations. They discuss PhysX and he believes other than Epic the only reason it is in any games is because of the money paid to developers to use it. I have to note that while DICE had support for PhysX in Mirror's Edge the much more extensive destruction in Battlefield Bad Company 2 is Havok powered at least in part. Does this indicate that PhysX may never take off? It seemed not so long ago in E3 I ate dinner with a Ageia founder and we talked about Physics in games. We were all big Battlefied players, and we talked about that to be successful physics needed to modify gameplay, and not just be a gimic. Well Battlefield Bad Company 2 is the first game I have seen really do that, and PhysX is nowhere to be seen. |

PC Authority has a graph of CPU price performance. The most apparent trend is that AMD's CPUs beat Intel's for pure value. The Athlon II line (red) is a good distance beneath Intel's Core 2 parts, while the Phenom II line (yellow) is way below all but the best of the new Core i3 and i5 parts. Based on price alone, AMD's aggressive strategy is working. |

Techspot has benchmarked a bunch of video cards with Battlefield Bad Company 2.Like many first person shooters the CPU doesn't play a huge role in this game's performance, therefore a decent dual-core processor should be enough to power even the latest graphics cards at full speed. As the resolution was increased the game became even more GPU bound, removing the CPU from the equation almost entirely.
Editor's note: Based on your feedback we've added two graphs showing CPU utilization in quad and dual core processors. Not quite. Our testing shows going from a Socket 939 dual core which is pegged 100% to a dual core AM3 or AM2 was a vaste improvement in performance, but triple core and quad core is even better. |

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — March 8, 2010 — AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced that, along with partners Pixelux Entertainment and Bullet Physics, it has added significant support to the Open Physics ecosystem by providing game developers with access to the newest version of the Pixelux Digital Molecular Matter (DMM), a breakthrough in physics simulation. In addition, to enabling a superior development experience and helping to reduce time to market, Pixelux has tightly integrated its technology, DMM, with Bullet Physics, allowing developers to integrate physics simulation into game titles that run on both OpenCL- and DirectCompute-capable platforms. And both DMM and Bullet work with Trinigy’s Vision Engine to create and visualize physics offerings in-game.
