PC Mag has reviewed the Acer Aspire M5100. This is their quad core Phenom desktop. Newegg has it for $599.99 The Aspire M5100 is a decent performer, clocking in respectable scores on Windows Media Encoder (1 minute 16 seconds) and on the Photoshop CS3 test (1:04). The dual-core-powered HP Pavilion Slimline s3330f, which I recently reviewed, chalked up times of 1:23 and 0:53, respectively. The M5100's so-so score of 347 on the 3DMark06 3D graphics test can be attributed to the built-in ATI Radeon X1250 graphics, which aren't DX10 hardware compatible. This means that the Aspire M5100 will do 2D tasks such as video, photo, and Web work fine, but you'll have to budget an extra couple hundred bucks for a card such as the nVidia GeForce 8800 GT or the ATI Radeon HD 3650 to play the latest 3D games on it. Me thinks someone doesn't know what they are talking about. $200 for a Radeon 3650 to play games on eh? They also talk about DX10 gaming power for some reason. Wow.
