Advanced Micro Devices has just announced that they have lost $1.19 Billion this last quarter. Q208 was rough for them with charges related to investments and their 2006 purchase of ATI Technologies. A loss was expected; however, this was lower (or higher in this case) than the analysts on Wall Street had predicted. AMD’s stock was up twenty-five cents this afternoon, as is often the case right before financial results are announced – but – expect the price to fall in the morning. The Street had hoped for revenues of $1.45 B, but AMD was $100 M short of that goal. AMD lost close to $2/share in the second quarter – if you have several shares, that obviously adds up very quickly. Hopefully AMD can deliver by the end of the year. This was AMD's 7th straight loss.
