First off, Fudzilla is saying that AMD is planning on a platform - one which will combine graphics, processing power and will be branded. The Future is Fusion. Faud then talks about AMD's new 45 nm Opteron, Shanghai. AMD promises a 400 MHz increase in speed at the same power draw of previous Opterons. Also, AMD is changing their tone about netbooks, by saying that it is too big of a market to ignore. AMD's ASP and margins might suffer (Even more!) with netbook parts, but, they might be able to make it work. There is not a lot of info on AMD's ultra-mobile segment at this time. Next, Charles at the Inquirer talks up AMD's new Opteron. He claims that it puts AMD in a much better position than they were with the older 65 nm Barcelona. DigiTimes talks about Opteron and then they talk about a new desktop platform, known as Dragon. Apparently, Dragon is Spider II. Spider was based on AMD 6-series chipsets, 3-series GPUs and Agena, the 65 nm Phenom. This new platforma will be similar, but will be based on AMD 7-series chipsets, 4-series GPUs and Deneb, the new 45 nm Phenom. |
