Yeah, AMD is laying off more people, and I talked face to face to a couple of customers yesterday that were AMD contractors that just got the axe. Well cbs5 in San Francisco goes for the trendy story of executive compensation.

Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s new chief executive, Dirk Meyer, pulled down a pay package valued at $5.3 million in his first year at the helm of the struggling chip maker, a big piece of which came in the form of stock and options tied to his promotion last summer, the company said in a regulatory filing at week's end. Meyer's compensation for 2008, a year in which the Sunnyvale-based company launched a major restructuring to improve its sagging finances, included a salary of $856,732 and stock and options valued at $4,386,448 when they were granted.

Ruiz also pulled down some cash, and will get more as the spinoff finishes.
