The San Fran Chronicle expects PC shipments to drop this year the most ever. Worldwide PC shipments are expected to plunge this year to 257 million units, a drop of 11.9 percent - the biggest ever in the industry, according to a new report. Mobile phone sales are also declining. Ouch, repairs are going up. Good news for Tek Republik. |

CNet has reviewed the Maingear X-Cube based on the Phenom II X4 940 with 4870 CrossFire. Maingear's X-Cube small form factor game PC has received a cleverly redesigned case and boasts strong bang for the buck in its niche. We wouldn't necessarily pick this configuration, and you can find a better deal in a standard-sized gaming desktop, but you still might be charmed by its unique looks and its decent value. |

PC Mag reviews the Gateway LX6200-01. It is a Phenom powered box. Likewise, the LX6200 falls short on the 3D tests. Both Crysis and World in Conflict are unplayable, with single-digit scores (at best) at both our test resolutions, and Crysis wouldn't even run at 1,920 by 1,200. This is due to the ATI Radeon 3200 integrated graphics' anemic 3D performance. If you want 3D gaming chops, you'll have to budget at least $250 more to add a decent discrete graphics card. Oh, the irony. The best integrated 3D video is anemic in performance. This reviewer should be lashed. I mean come on. Pull you head out. |

Tweaktown builds an AMD HTPC for Blu Ray and HD audio playback. We had an incredibly large amount of fun researching this article and getting the parts in from all the friendly companies who helped out here. It wasn't much of a decision when it came to deciding which processor to use - of course the X4 9950 offers the best performance, but that is at the expense of much more power usage. We ended up picking the X2 4850E since it is more than powerful for solid and smooth Blu-ray playback, uses the least amount of power out of all parts we tested and is also the cheapest of the bunch. The choice was easy in the end. |
