CPUs at Computex PDF Print E-mail
Written by Chris Tom

The Inquirer has some early news from Computex on CPUs.

The Hector and Co also have something upcoming - do look for some demos of 45nm quad-core Phenoms and Opterons, well disguised and or hidden, of course. How well? Depends on how close the chippery is to the usable production stage. But in any case, you should be able to spot some. In summary, this should be the first Computex in a while to see early intros of both Intel and AMD next generation CPUs at one go - not to mention behind-closed-doors NV and ATI upcoming GPU show offs.

Beyond 3D has coverage of AMD's Tech Day at Develop 2007.

Looking forward, Agena will fight Kentsfield and Yorkfield in short order at the tail end of this year to decide who rules the quad-core multi-threaded PC roost. NVIDIA will likely ship their next round of D3D10 acceleration before 2008, too, and AMD have a Radeon or two left up their sleeves before year's end. Microsoft recently shipped the Tech Preview for D3D10.1, too, which some of the aforementioned coming hardware might support. All these factors combine to focus AMD and its Develop Tech Day efforts. Put simply, there's enough going on in graphics and games development that such a Tech Day almost becomes mandatory.

Digitimes reports that Asus and Gigabyte may be pulling out of Cebit. With Comdex now a distant memory Cebit may be next on the chopping block if it starts loosing computer giants. CES and Computex may be it in the future.

The cost to attend CeBIT is large, but with most visitors to the trade show being end-users and coming from Germany, Taiwan-based OEM and PC part companies did not benefit much from the show, reported the paper.
