Advanced Micro Devices has launched a few DDR3 based Phenom IIs. This is awesome, if you ask me - but, there is more to the story than meets the eye. I can't find any motherboards (DDR3 motherboards..) for sale, yet. No worries though, because AMD has made it possible for you to buy one of these new processors, use it with DDR2 in your current motherboard and then migrate to DDR3 when the new motherboards come out. If that doesn't sound good to you, you can just go ahead and wait for the whole platform to launch. At first, this seems like a stupid move from AMD - but, they might sell a few of these chips and current motherboards - and then sell another DDR3 motherboard later on. If they do this right, they could get more money than if they launched all of the parts at the same time. The Inquirer has more.
