OCIA has reviewed the Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition. You can grab it here from several vendors for $149.99. I have to say I'm impressed with AMD's latest Deneb processor core. It takes me back years ago to the single core Thoroughbred XP and Venice 64 processors that were capable of near gigahertz overclocks. These chips loved voltage and as long as you kept temperatures low they were capable of reaching extreme speeds. The fastest processor AMD released to date that I am aware of is the 6400+ X2 which ran at an impressive 3.2Ghz stock, and yet this chip topped out for me at only 3.55Ghz and was extremely difficult to keep temps under control. I'm happy to see their latest Phenom II Deneb core surpass that, if not at stock speeds then at least when supplied with additional voltage. And with the 45nm die process the temperature issues seem to be a thing of the past.
