Nvidia Pulls 175.19 Windows XP Drivers

Nvidia has pulled their version 175.19 graphics drivers for Windows XP. We had performance issues with this driver on our gaming PCs at Tek Republik, and particularly Age of Conan and Call of Duty 4 seemed to be problems. For Vista they are still here. For Windows XP here are the 175.16 released in May. While we are on the subject I've had issues with the CUDA driver on our gaming boxes. I want to be able to game on them, and have them run the Folding at Home client for Team AMDZone, but they seem to be causing issues with some games as well. I hope Nvidia can unify the driver so that you can fold on your normal gaming driver as you can with the Radeons.

AMD Catalyst 8.6 Released

AMD has released Catalyst 8.6 drivers. These of course support the latest Radeon 4850. They also add new features and performance improvements.

0607 Crosshair II Formula BIOS Fixes Hybrid SLI

After many attempts at getting Hybrid SLI to work with Asus' Crosshair II formula, a flash to the newest BIOS version 0607 resolves the error and it works now perfectly. Grab it here. It also resolves a few other issues including a LAN fail problem.

AMD has released new Radeon Catalyst drivers version 8.5. Here are some of the notes. • Call of Juarez DX10 – Performance increases up to 12% on the ATI Radeon HD 3000 Series of products • Lost Planet DX10 – Performance increases from 5% to 35% on the ATI Radeon HD 3000 Series of products. • World in Conflict DX10 – Performance increases up to 25% on the ATI Radeon HD 3600 and ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series of products. Even greater gains are seen on the ATI Radeon HD 3870X2. • Stalker DX9 – Performance increases by 20-50% when HDR is enabled in the game; across the ATI Radeon 3800 Series of products. • Halo – Performance increases by 10-30% across all ATI Radeon graphics products.
