Jeff is currently testing Rainbow Six Vegas to see if it indeed has the multicore support that Epic promised. I can tell you that initial results show that it indeed does, but you will have to wait a bit longer to see the actual numbers. |

Well Valve's Steam was down for the better part of yesterday, and that really hurt business at our gaming center here in Austin, Tek Republik. Even worse you can not log into your Steam Cafe account that legit gaming centers like us pay for. Now I love Valve's games, and Steam is great for distribution of games like Counter Strike and Half Life, and for statistics, but for authentification it is clearly flawed. Now as everyone gets out of school or work for the holidays the crucial December break which is the best period of the year for most lan gaming centers other than Summer is clearly going to take a hit. I had predicted to some customers that Steam, WoW, or Battlefield would have some sort of issue, and sure enough it happened. The combination of increased play, and bad weather in Washington State was enough to put it over the edge. Reports are that the only authentification servers were in Washington State taking down normal Steam authentification, and it appears to be the same for the Cafe accounts as no server is authenticating them or updating them either. One would hope Valve would let Cafe account owners in on when they might expect service back. Unfortunately that is not the case as you can see here. I certainly hope Valve rectifies the situation soon, and can at least give us an update. There is a giant sucking sound, and the end result could be even more gaming centers going out of business. That would be a shame. |

We have a new poll asking who will win the console war. Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii are all neck and neck so far. We have all three here at Tek Republik in case you are in Austin, and would like to try them out. You can enter to win a Wii here at Newegg. |
