Along with the Athlon Neo MV-40, The Pavilion DV2 will now be available with the Athlon Neo X2 L335 for $25 extra, or the Turion Neo X2 L625 for $75 extra. The Register has gotten their hands on AMD's new Neo based mobile platform. They review the HP Pavillion dv2 notebook and compare it to other ultra-mobile laptops. While it is bigger than it's direct competitors, such as the Asus EEPC, Acer One and Dell Mini, it offers a pretty significant boost in performance. However, this comes at a cost - as we mentioned, it is larger; but, it is also hotter running and has less battery life. That said, judging by the pictures, it is still a pretty thin laptop. Not bad for AMD's first real attempt at cracking this market - no doubt though that they can do better. This laptop is available at Buy.com for $750 with free shipping. |

CNet discusses the update to HP's dv2 laptop. It is going to use AMD's Congo platform sometime later this year. The dual-core Neo chip used in the updated HP dv2 (which is exclusive to HP) will be followed by AMD's Congo technology, due in the third quarter, which integrates AMD's HD3200 graphics, an improvement over the current "Yukon" platform. The all-important power envelope--that, after all, is what sets the technology apart from mainstream mobile silicon--of the whole package including the graphics is expected to be about the same as the first-generation Neo, according to AMD. You can grab the current HP dv2 here starting at $699.99 |
