IBM Developerworks has an article on porting apps to 64 bit Linux.

Major hardware vendors have recently expanded their 64-bit offerings because of the performance, value, and scalability that 64-bit platforms can provide. The constraints of 32-bit systems, particularly the 4GB virtual memory ceiling, have spurred companies to consider migrating to 64-bit platforms. Knowing how to port applications to comply with a 64-bit architecture can help you write portable and efficient code.

Linux Planet has posted a review of SUSE 10 Linux. They test it out on the Athlon 64 based HP Pavilion zv5000 notebook.

I'm very happy with the Athlon 64 laptop and SUSE Linux 10. Everything works and the software is stable. Like I said at the beginning, this is the best Linux version I've ever loaded on a laptop.

OUR RESIDENT folk singer Wendy liked the Ubuntu flavour of Linux a couple months ago, so I thought this was an opportunity to test the latest release (5.10), and this time download the 64-bit version to match the Athlon64 CPU in my Gateway 7422.

Denali's PureSpec Verification IP Supports AMD64 Processor-Based Linux Computing Platforms

PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 8 -- Denali Software Inc. today
announced the support for the AMD Opteron(TM) processor and AMD64
architecture. Denali has now deployed its MMAV(TM) and PureSpec(TM)
verification intellectual property (IP) products with full support for AMD64
processor-based systems running 64-bit Linux.

rely on Denali to deliver products for the most advanced design environments,"
says David Lin, Denali's vice president of product marketing. "Many of our
customers are now taping out designs with 50 to 100 million gates. Running
