ZDNet reports that Sun is working to open source Solaris 10.

The differences between the Sun and open-source versions of Solaris will be comparable to the differences between Red Hat's Enterprise Linux and the free but unsupported Fedora Core version, Schwartz said: Only the former will come with support and certification.

OpenBSD 3.6 has been released. It adds SMP support for AMD64 platforms. It supports PowerNow! for K6 and K7 CPUs.

Mandrake has released the second beta of their 10.1 AMD64 distribution.

The second beta release of Mandrakelinux 10.1 for x86-64 has arrived!

Novell has announced that SUSE Linux Professional 9.2 will be available in November. This includes the AMD64 version.

SUSE LINUX Professional 9.2 comes complete with comprehensive installation media, documentation and technical support and is available for standard 32-bit PC processors as well as AMD Athlon* 64 and Intel* Extended Memory 64 Technology.
