Happy 4th of July to everyone. I've already had my parade for the day, and tonight we will have some fireworks, but I'm also calling this Fold of July. Why fold of July? Because you should be folding! Join our Folding at Home team, and help cure several diseases, and cancer. With the new GPU2 clients with Nvidia and AMD support the folding power of your computer just increased dramatically. If you have questions get in the distributed computing forum. You will see me folding under the Tek Republik name. All you need is a computer, and you can fold under almost any OS. Don't get discouraged if you are racking up points like some of the guys on the list. Every point counts, and it all goes to a good cause. Curing cancer. If you have a newer Radeon or GeForce card, or dual or quad core CPU or Playstation 3 then you are well on your way to racking up a lot of points. Just pick up one of the high performance clients from the Folding at Home download page. If you have a Radeon, you will need at least the 2000 series for the GPU2 client. If you have a Radeon X1600 or higher you can fold, but you have to use the older GPU client. We are currently testing on the 4870 so those work as well. * 2xxx/3xxx ATI Video Card, or newer
* ATI Driver v8.1+, v8.3 or newer recommended
* AGP GPU aperture size in the BIOS must be set to 128 MB or larger
* Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, with updates recommended
* Windows operating system, XP or newer
* Processor with SSE2 support to feed the GPU
For Nvidia cards here are the requirements. You need a CUDA capable card so pretty much anything as good as a GeForce 8400 and up. You can find that list here. * a GeForce, Quadro, or Tesla card that supports CUDA (G80 or later for the most part)
* A CUDA capable driver, version 174.55 is recommended. Or 177.35 for GTX cards.
* 32-bit Windows operating system, XP or newer (better Vista support coming soon); 64-bit Windows operating systems appear to currently be incompatible (We're working on this too.)
We are currently approaching 100,000 points a day, and back in December we did just over 400,000 points total so that is a huge increase. I want to see us bust the top 100 by the end of July, and make serious strides towards the top 50 by the end of the year. We can do it, we just need more help, and to harness the power of your CPU and GPU! Stay tuned for a big article from me on Folding performance that will help you. Thanks to the new folders on the team. We have nearly 20 new folders, and if you have any questions please post on the forum or e-mail us and we will help you get up and running. |

Well we have passed the snobs at Apple Computer Inc as we have gone up a couple of spots to 141st place with our improved Folding at Home team! So there you have it. Get your system up and going, and help the AMDZone team fold for a good cause. We have HKEPC in range to pass up, and our next target will be forums.AMD.com. They shouldn't be ahead of us. We have the oldest AMD forum on the planet! |

After a long hiatus from distributed computing teams starting with Seti, and RC5, and then United Devices I've been enticed back into the game thanks to the new GPU clients for Folding@Home. In fact performance is so good that I'm ready to get a bigger push behind our team. At present we are ranked 145 in the world. If you remember our United Devices team was a top 5 team. We can do that again, and our Playtation 3s, and Radeon and GeForce GPUs will get us there.
The AMDZone team page is here. We have a lot of dedicated folders, but we need more, and any help is appreciated whether you have a single core CPU, or a Radeon HD 4870. You will want to download a high performance client. This gives you SMP or GPU support. There are FAQS on how to get them going. You can also see some more details stats here at Extreme Overclocking. We are still working on a contest for this, but in the meantime get to folding guys! You can get in the forum here and ask the guys anything you need to, and also check out my latest screenshot of my folding. |
