Colfax’s Advanced Design of GPU-Focused, 10,136-Core Parallel Computing Facility to Further the Artificial Evolution of Neural Circuitry
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--Colfax International today announced that the company has configured and installed a fully-customized, GPU-based high-performance system for Evolved Machines that will accelerate the development of artificial neural circuits for a new generation of devices in artificial olfaction and vision. The system incorporates 42 NVIDIA® Tesla™ GPU Computing processors, controlled by 14 Quad-Core AMD Phenom® conventional microprocessors, and has a nominal computation capacity of over 40TFlops.
“Simulating the mechanisms embedded in biological neural circuitry requires an enormous amount of parallel compute power, and we required a very high-performance system,” said Paul A. Rhodes, Ph.D., CEO of Evolved Machines “Thanks to the highly professional design, installation and support services delivered by Colfax, we were able to seamlessly migrate to the new system.”
“At Colfax we specialize in designing commodity-based, high-performance systems that are customized for our customer’s requirement,” said Gautam Shah, President and CEO of Colfax International. “Evolved Machines came to Colfax with a high-level of system productivity requirements, and working together with NVIDIA, we were able to quickly develop a system that exceeded Evolved Machines expectations.”

Advanced Micro Devices is offering discounts to those customers who opt to upgrade their Opterons from AMD's last generation to their current Shanghai generation. The discounts, while not much, are still seen as a way to boost customer demand. AMD is willing to give customers and channel partners a $50 discount on the 2000 series of Opterons and a $100 discount for purchasers of the 8000 series. According to Tawain News, this is roughly one-third off on certain products. This is the first I've heard of this deal, but we will update you later if we find anything else concerning this. |
