RECENTLY WE RAN both the reference and Asus design flavours of the HD4870X2 dual GPU card on the Intel Core i7 desktop. The newest Catalyst driver, the 8.12 version from two weeks ago, was rumoured to give problems when running a CrossfireX setup. So, we put the two cards, the hot AMD reference and noticeably cooler Asus version – both at the same clocks – together on the Asus P6T Deluxe Nehalem mobo, to see what happens when running the 3Dmark Vantage.
