Fudo says that AMD did not order enough 40nm parts from TSMC to satisfy users DirectX 11 cravings. According to our sources Nvidia ordered the majority of 40nm wafer for its 40nm mobile chips that are selling great, due to a demand for Callpela Intel notebook platform and desktop chips in 40nm in the entry level were embraced by the big OEMs as they work fine and are cheap. So when Global Foundris is up to speed this will no longer be a problem, at least in theory, for AMD. |

Xbit reveals AMD and they say that they expect supply of the Radeon HD 5000 series to pick up in a few weeks. “TSMC has made good progress with the 40nm technology. At this point our new ATI Radeon HD 5000 family is pulling on 40nm and as is always the case with the hot new product early in the launch: we are hand and mouth on supply. I expect that situation to improve over the coming weeks and months,” said Dirk Meyer, chief executive officer of AMD. I'm guessing this is info they got from AMD's earning conference call. |

Over at Fudos the belief is that AMD has locked up the GPU in the next Xbox, or Xbox 720. Let's hope Microsoft doesn't design the board layout this time around. Of course we all remember when AMD was the CPU for the orginal Xbox, but Intel swooped in and grabbed that deal. We've learned from industry sources that AMD / ATI has already won the GPU deal for the next generation XboX console. It looks like Microsoft was happy with first Xeons GPU and it wants to continue using the same, especially since the new ATI GPU should keep the compatibility with legacy games. Of course if your Xbox is broken, or your Playstation, or Wii, Tek Republik is the best place to get it fixed of course. |
