The Inquirer believes that ATI will have a hard time trying to catch up with Nvidia on SLI. ATI has one advantage. It will be able to offer its SLI marchitecture for Intel lovers and I guess that Dell will make one of its XPS machines with ATI SLI, unless it chooses to go for an AMD/Nforce 4 answer, of course. Ok, so that advantage was just erased. |

Nvidia and Sun have announced an alliance in professional graphics. This would mean further developement on Opteron workstations of course, and one would have to start thinking about Sun Workstations with nForce 4 chipsets and Quadro SLI configurations. HP is selling an ATI Radeon X300 SE PCI Express graphics card. They call it an HP ATI Radeon card in fact, and the cost tagged on it is $149. You can of course check out details on the X300 on the ATI site. It appears that in fact PCI Express cards are starting to trickle out. I know we have seen sight of them here in the lab. Now the questions are will games like Doom 3 push PCI Express adoption whether or not it is needed, and when will we see PCI Express from Nvidia and VIA for Athlon 64? Stay tuned. |
