I've posted my review of the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series of Athlon 64 PCI Express chipsets. I've compared it to the VIA K8T980, and the Nvidia nForce 4 Ultra. There are going to be few comparing all three chipsets. |

ATI is shipping their PCI Express AMD chipset according to this Digitimes story. ATI is the first company to ship PCIe-enabled core-logic chipsets for the AMD K8 platform, and this will be its first chipset offering for an AMD processor platform. The company is offering two K8 chipsets, the RX480 discrete chipset, and the RX480 integrated part. ATI will also launch the RS400 integrated chipset for Intel's Pentium 4 platform. So ATI says they will be first to the AMD PCI Express chipset that is shipping. We have tested the VIA solution, but we are still awaiting boards from the other chipset manufacturers. |

The Inquirer reports that Nvidia will launch the nForce 4 on October 19th. You can of course check our tests of the VIA K8T890 until we post our nForce 4 results for a glimpse of PCI Express performance with an AMD CPU. These chipsets will support all sockets for Athlon and Opteron CPUs including 754, 939 and 940; will support DDR 400 memory; one to two PCIe graphic ports; S-ATA and S-ATA RAID; Sound Storm 7.1 and Nvidia LAN. |
