AMD Price Drops With FX-6350 and FX-4350 Introduction

CPU World has spotted AMD price cuts across most of their CPU line now that the 125 watt FX-4350 and FX-6350 have been introduced.  Older parts have gone away.

A handful of old Phenom II X4 and X6 microprocessors were removed from the price list, including Phenom II X4 840, 905e, 910e, Phenom II X6 1055T, 1075T, 1090T BE and 1100T BE. The only Phenom II part, that had its price revised, was X4 965 Black Edition. This CPU now costs $81, down from $91.

10 Years of x86

The Inquirer notes that Monday marked 10 years of AMD's x86 with the release of the Opteron.

A DECADE AGO AMD released the first Opteron processor and with it the first 64-bit x86 processor.
AMD's lavish New York launch for the Opteron processor was far more than a product launch, it was AMD showing it could reproduce the success of the Athlon K7 chip and take the fight to Intel by developing ground breaking new features and not just one-upping its rival on some benchmarks. The firm's Opteron processor brought 64-bit computing to the commodity x86 chip market, along with an on-die memory controller and the Hypertransport bus all in one product.

AMD Centurion: 5GHz On Air At $800

Hexus reports that AMD will release the Centurion FX at 5GHz on air, and rumored to be $795 in price.

So how about this as a rumour for a Friday morning? Though AMD will never go on record and confirm this, we have it on good authority that the chip-maker will soon be releasing a super-FX chip. Based on the same 'Vishera' architecture powering the current FX-8350, which runs at up to 4.2GHz, this new FX, codenamed 'Centurion', is to be made available in very limited quantities.

AMD: Moore's Law Ending?

The Inquirer reports that AMD's John Gustafson believes Moore's Law is coming to an end.

According to Gustafson, the transistor density afforded by a process node defines the chip's economic viability. He said, "We [AMD] want to also look for the sweet spot, because if you print too few transistors your chip will cost too much per transistor and if you put too many it will cost too much per transistor. We've been waiting for that transistion from 28nm to 20nm to happen and it's taking longer than Moore's Law would have predicted."

A6-1450 Quad APU Is Temash

Fudzilla reports that AMD's A6-1450 APU is a Temash part.  Its for tablets and clocks at 1GHz.

The new Temash quad core, at least the one clocked at 1GHz, will end up branded as AMD A6-1450. It has Radeon HD 8280 graphics and the Larne reference system comes with 2GB DDR3 1066 memory. The AMD A6-1450-based tablet (hybrid) in AMD’s presentation delivers scores of 981 and 3123 in 3DMark and PCMark respectively. Last generation samples, powered by the Z-60 APU clocked at 1GHz (40nm Zacate) with 2x2GB DDR3 1066, HD 6250 graphics and Windows 7 scored 455 and 1914 in 3DMark Vantage and PCMark Vantage respectively.
