Battlefield 4 Beta Performance: Catalyst 13.10V2 Issues

We have been testing out Battlefield 4 beta performance here at Game Republik.  Using our 2GB Radeon 7850s and 6 core Vishera class FX-6300s at stock 3.5GHz performance with the auto settings at 1080P struggles to reach 20 frames per second with the 13.10V2 drivers released yesterday.  Dropping quality or resolution sometimes even makes performance worse.  With 13.8 or 13.10V1 on much older Athlon II X4 650s at just 3.2GHz performance is at about 25 frames per second, but smoothness makes it feel like a much larger frame rate difference.  It appears we have microstuttering issues introduced at least with the 7850.  We are trying 6850s next.  CPU cores are maxed with either the 6 core or 4 core no matter which driver is used.  Mantle can't come soon enough it appears.

Our own Vitalik is playing on the Athlon II X4 at 3.2GHz with a Radeon HD 7850 2GB model, 8GB DDR1600, and Catalyst version 13.8.  At time of the picture he was 6 kills 1 death so I would call that playable.  This is in Windows 7 64 bit.  From reports we are seeing online Windows 8 is working better which is not so great outside of E3 since the bulk of gamers are running Windows 7.

And tonight performance continues to frustrate, but I did find this post in the BF4 forums.  A user with the same CPU as us, the 6300, and a 7950 set BF4.exe to low priority and this boosted him to 40 to 80 frames per second in ultra with Vsync on.  Could this be a CPU related issue?

Mantle: New Low Level Programming Interface For PCs Announced

AMD and DICE have announced they have been working on Mantle.  Mantle is a new low level programing interface for PCs.  It has a lightweight driver with direct access to the GPU hardware.  If you are thinking Glide, that could be a decent example.  Battlefield 4 will get a December patch to add support for Mantle for certain Radeon GPUs.  AMD will talk more about Mantle at their developer conference in November.  This could be huge.
