NY files antitrust suit against Intel

During the press conference, New York prosecutors said Intel abused its monopoly power “as a central business strategy” rather than just in isolated incidents. In addition, the attorney general’s office claimed to have evidence linking Intel’s top executives to these abusive actions.

“We intend to stop them,” Mr. Cuomo said.

Mr. Cuomo’s office said it had examined millions of pages of e-mail messages and documents during its 23-month investigation into Intel and taken testimony from dozens of witnesses.

Mr. Cuomo contends that consumers would have benefited from lower prices and better products had there been an even playing field in the chip market. His lawsuit seeks to stop Intel from continuing what he called its anticompetitive practices and to recover damages and penalties.

Its about time this happened, But with our legal system and corupt politicians nothing will ever come of it, and if it does it will be very minimal punishment. Now if the NY prosecutors really push for a conviction and stiff penalties we might see a change in intels business practice's, and then again it might mean higher prices from computer manufacturers.

That comments section is simply amazing, I had to stop reading them.
People wonder why some countries have this pathological hate for America. It's people with attitudes like that who are the cause of the problem.
They don't even realise that AMD is American, not that it matters where AMD hails from, intels behaviour is unacceptable no matter what!

Years ago I was the desktop systems product manager for Northgate Computers, a relatively high-flying clone company in the 90s. I made a decision to use one of the first AMD chips in a new line of computers. A about 4:30 pm on a Friday, three Intel salesmen showed up in my office. The gist of the conversation: "You can do what you want, but if you don't use all Intel all the time, don't count on getting you allocation of processor..." This was at a time when your Intel allocation could make or break a quarter's sales. Needless to say, I dropped the AMD plans. I'd call that intimidation. Go Cuomo!

That was about the only decent comment though. Most were along the lines of why don't they go after the banks instead. Or worse, he's a commie.
What these morons fail to realise is that computing is the way forward for almost everything when it comes to productivity and intels actions have set the scene back by ten years or more. If they pull these stunts again when Bulldozer arrives you could change that to 15 or 20 years. These idiots don't realise what intel have really done.
Imagine how AMD could be driving things forward with an extra ten or twenty billion dollars which they should have got with K8.
That in turn would help intel and drive them forward as well. Instead we've had stagnation...in both camps.

6 Billion dollars was wasted lining Michael Dells pockets, how on earth does that help with innovation?
