Hey ya'll, I just did a google search to see if there was any news on Episode 3 of HL2 and came upon this story:

I'd like to draw your attention to this part- particularly the bolded text:
Now, last I heard HL2: EP3 was to be the last HL game, and effectively the end of the franchise. Now this article is well over a year old, and to the best of my knowledge there's been next to nothing from Valve about anything relating to HL- but to the best of my knowledge E3 isn't over yet so we might still find out some news.
Just curious if ya'll had any input on the matter. Is EP3 the end to HL? Have any of ya'll heard anything recent about EP3? I loved the last 2 episodes and can't wait for the 3rd. I'd love an HL3 game using a new engine (Source 2.0 maybe? 
). Just thinking of the possibilities they could do with the series... the G-man, his relationship with Gordon (good or bad), the resistance, the combine, the aliens- SO MANY POSSIBILITIES!!! lol

In case you’re wondering what will happen after Episode 3 is released in either 2008 or 2009. Developer Valve said it will be the last episode in the currently planned story arc, but it will not be the end of the Half-Life franchise, so Half-Life 2: Episode 4 or in a way Half-Life 3 might be entirely possible.
