kv8 pro not booting up

Hi everyone,

I just bought an Abit Kv8 pro motherboard and AMD 2800+ cpu but the system doesn't boot up. I've tried 3 different video cards (2 radeon AGP and one ati rage 128 pci) but the system hangs at post code 01. I'm using 1 gig cosair ddr266 ram, and nothing shows up on the screen. I've tried clearing the cmos as well, and have never seen the bios screen. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks!

try just one stick of memory at a time

what brand of memory are you using and what slots do you have them in ?

i only have that one stick of cosair 1gig memory. tried it in both slots. the only thing that concerns me is on the compatability test on the company web page there is no compatible ram below 400mhz

go to corsair's web site and see if they have it on their compatible list for that motherboard

First, I don't think it's a memory problem: this motherboard supports 266MHz ,see manufucturers site.

Now,if the computer doesn't boot at all - you might have problem with your power supply.Check all connectors.Do you use brand name PSU or just a generic power supply?Because new grafic cards are very demanding for the power and generic power supply that says it's 400Watt really may be just around 200 watt,so check your PSU.

Second,you might wanna check your drives connection : your hard drive must be connected to PRIMARY IDE slot and CD ROM to SECONDARY IDE slot.I have same MoBo and CPU that you have and I had such a problem.

i have seen where a bad cd would bring a code 01 on the screen

I sincerely apologize if I am stating the obvious, but just in case you haven't double checked yet, make sure the fan speed sense wire is connected to your "CPU Fan" connector on your motherboard. Just in case you don't know already, you can connect your CPU fan directly to a power supply connector if you want to, just as long as the third fan-speed Sense wire is connected to the CPU fan connector. Without this connection, the motherboard will refuse to boot, thinking the CPU fan is not working. This is a safety feature to protect your CPU from burning up, which it would do pretty quickly if the fan really was not working. Sorry if I am stating the obvious.
