mini display to vga adapter

When I hook my macbook up to a projector via mini display to vga adapter, its fuzzy. why? When I hook up my new macbook to my projector with the mini-display adapter to vga cable, the image is fuzzy. I have used the projector with other devices with clear results. my roommate thinks I need some sort of "HD VGA" cable. maybe my mini-display adapter is faulty. any ideas?

The adapter seems to be susceptible to interference? Have you been able to output clear image from that macbook at all?
