how much gold in K6 CPU?

AMD's K6 line kept AMD as the only serious competitor to Intel. This CPU still has some fans!

I have noticed a few spivs selling mixed bags of K6 CPUs "for gold content"
and in one case the bidding went up to $100 US, probably as the wording of
listing was rather dodgy (might mislead somebody gullible).
I imagine the plating is rather thin and you would only get a few mg from
each one. Which requires either a lot of heat or toxic acids to extract.
So, does the K6 have more gold, than say a Celeron?

Not enough unless you are recycling on an industrial scale.

Tom's just did the experiment.

The amazing thing about gold (for plating purposes) is how amazingly thin you can apply it. If the pins themselves were gold, that would be a different story.

I saw a show on how they recover precious metals like gold from electronics. IIRC it was on Modern Marvels.

It's quite the process.
