F@H Contest - Current Folders ONLY - 10/15-10/31

The guys at AMD have given us the green light to have a contest where the winner will be sent an AM2+ Quad-Core Opteron* which will run at 2.3 GHz. This specific contest will be for members who have been folding BEFORE October 14th. The contest for new folders will be point based; however, this is not the case for the current folders, since we know you guys a bit better. I know a lot of you are folding under different names than you have on the forums, so please post and tell us your F@H name to be entered into the contest.

The winner will be selected at random and you have until the end of the month to enter. If you have any questions, please shoot me a PM, or start a new thread. Thanks!

*AMD is willing to send one (1) Socket F Opteron (Barcelona) running at 2.3 GHz, in place of the Budapest processor, if requested.

For folding on non-socket F, 955 for the same price would make more sense.

If JF-AMD is supporting the Contest and only has access to Server Promo, then a socket F chip would allow the user to think about a 2-P build.

JF also has Barcelonas which we talked about but we thought Budapest would be easier for most as it's socket compatible.
If you wanted a Socket F Barcelona then I'm sure you could talk to JF about it.

NOTE: I'm not speaking on JF's behalf here, just making a suggestion.

I also might want to add that I'm like the old guy that runs marathons and takes five hours- I'm just doing this for fun with no possibility of winning. One slow dual-core and a couple of early-2000s single cores aren't going to beat you guys folding on multiple quads and fast GPUs.

Well seeing as though it's AM2+ it will be the same as putting together a desktop, the only thing you might need to do is flash a bios for the chip. It might be worth contacting JF to find out what boards it will work in beforehand.

Good question, since I was planning on a build around the Christmas holiday I've already got a case w/psu, a HDD, and a optical drive I was mulling the idea of a motherboard and CPU.

I was originally considering either an MSI or Gigabyte board with a Phenom II and Corsair RAM, but now since I'm now the proud owner of a server chip I'm going to have a change of plans.

Since my fellow AMDzoners are real computer enthusiasts and are more knowledgeable than myself, I'm open for suggestions.

BTW Brutis, in Tuffy's latest pic he looks like he's sleeping off a bender!
